Andy Tinker: “We are so privileged to have been able to drive the two million hectare Kruger National Park over the past 20 years.”
Andy and Lorrain Tinker met in 1995, their mutual love of the bush becoming a catalyst for them to change course from their careers as a fashion photographer and medical doctor and immerse themselves in wildlife and landscape photography. Moving from the concrete jungle of Johannesburg to White River to live a healthier lifestyle close to Kruger with daughter Jade and son Jamie, the couple have survived tough times through hard work, determination and vision.
Most of us have difficulty capturing a good photo from our vehicles in the park, let alone with youngsters squirming on the backseat, but Andy and Lorrain have persevered with their craft and vision to become the Kruger Park map, guide and souvenir specialists. They’ve branched out from printed material to E-books, tee shirts for adults and kids, and fun items like their Passports. The Tinker’s understand better than anyone the trials of attempting to enjoy and photograph the bush combined with children and their experience has led to the development of various entertainment suggestions and items such as a Kids Guides to the Wild to keep the restless pack occupied . Having conquered the Lowveld, the Tinkers have extended their range to include Cape Town Guides and products. Thousands of visitors to South Africa return home to every corner of the globe bearing or wearing a Tinker item. So cool!
Andy recently launched a new Kruger Park Map and Guide book, and is busy travelling Botswana in his quest to make that corner of Africa accessible to self-drive tourists.
All we can say is ‘congratulations, our latest White River Stars!’ We are delighted that this White River team have turned their passion and creative talent into a business that does the Lowveld proud.
