Tim Buckland: “It’s an intimate coffee experience”.
In the early 1980s, Tim and Kim planted coffee trees in the Hazyview area and Sabie Valley Coffee was established. As time passed and coffee prices fell, the couple realised that they needed to adapt and change focus in order to keep ahead of the game.
Good with his hands, Tim proceeded to build all the equipment needed to roast coffee, and the couple developed their own technique for roasting the Arabica beans they grew. Coffee is a complex commodity, requiring a great deal of management and a careful eye on the process from picking to cup. The quality of your cuppa begins when the beans are picked, washed, sundried and roasted. Storage and grinding is also very important. The Bucklands are always on hand to advise you on how to make the perfect brew!
In 2016, the Bucklands moved to White River and downscaled Sabie Valley Coffee to the boutique roastery and coffee shop they have at Casterbridge. “We are exactly where we want to be now,” Tim says. They are adamant about wanting a lifestyle, not a business which consumes all of their time and energy. They glow with happiness and enthusiasm, leaping up to welcome customers, or friends, as they refer to them.
Sabie Valley Coffee offers four different roasts of their variety of Malawian beans from subtle to lively and robust. Pick your passion for a flavoursome sip to an energy kick!
Kim makes a wickedly decadent chocolate cake which is served in the shop; a delightful counterpoint to a cup of coffee. Do try their cold brew coffee – perfect for a scorching Lowveld day.
Sabie Valley Coffee is open from 08h00 – 17h00 Monday to Saturday, closed on Sundays and Public Holidays. Tours of the facilities are offered on Wednesdays by appointment only, and the venue can be booked for private functions.
