When one steps into the tranquil space at LiveShanti Wellness on White River Country Estate one can’t help but feel relaxed and at peace. It’s as though the outside world of stress and responsibilities, for a moment, do not not exist and one can give in to the power of soothing energy, softness and healing light.
Yoga teacher Denise Sohandev exudes an aura of peace and tranquillity, her outfit of all white adding to her serene appearance. Denise has been teaching yoga for many years and it all started in the UK when she started attending yoga classes. She loved it so much that when she left the UK she decided to become a yoga teacher. She then went to India to study Kundalini and Hatha Yoga. She uses both these schools of yoga in her classes.
Kundalini is a school of yoga that really inspires one to delve deeply into oneself. It derives its name through a focus on awakening kundalini energy through regular practice of asana (yoga postures) meditation, breathing and chanting.
Hatha Yoga is more focused on the physical body. It is an old system that includes the practice of asanas (yoga postures) and pranayama (breathing exercises), which help bring peace to the mind and body, preparing the body for deeper spiritual practices such as meditation.
Denise believes that everyone deserves to feel energized, focused, strong and healthy and that each person can be peaceful in mind and body. She also presents workshops and retreats in beautiful, relaxed surroundings as well as meditation classes where clients can manage stress and take time out for reflection.
LiveShanti Yoga recently started branching out into life coaching for women. The focus is on empowering women and helping them to realise their best selves. Denise says that women often feel like they’ve been in a supportive role for too long. They often only focus on other people, taking care of other people’s needs before their own. These one on one coaching sessions teach women to break through barriers, and come to a realisation of their own power and healing energy.
“Authenticity is scary. Good? Good is easy. Being who you are doesn’t suit everyone, but it’s worth it. The ones who don’t approve aren’t your people. If you have to be ‘good’ at the expense of being real it’s too high a price to pay. Gravitate with loving kindness away from the naysayers and towards the Beings that stoke your fire of transformation. Say goodbye to fear and anxiety and self-doubt as you embrace the whole, beautiful, magnificent, messy you. This is what it’s all about, this is why we do it. This is why we shine the light of awareness on our lives….to live authentically, to be who we are.” – Wahe Guru
The people of White River are lucky to have a yogini of Denise’s stature in their midst. Don’t you think? We all need to be the best versions of ourselves in order to be better parents, romantic partners, citizens and business people and the mindfulness that comes with the practice of yoga and meditation is one way to connect to that inner power that we all possess within ourselves.
