“We are a voluntary organisation with the specific aim to provide love, support and emotional care to the aged in our community. We endeavour to make them feel loved, secure and valued.”
Care Buddies is a non-profit organisation committed to giving loving care and support to the community’s aged residents. It was founded in 2003 after a series of visits to Rustig Old Age Home opened the eyes of three ladies to the loneliness experienced by many of the residents. Birthdays, Christmas and long weekends were particularly bad times for them.
There are now 70 Care Buddies and the organisation has grown beyond the boundaries of White River and now also operates in Nelspruit, Barberton and Hoedspruit. The White River branch is often approached by people from other towns across South Africa who want to start something similar in their own area.
The White River Care Buddies visit 250 pensioners at Rustig and Macadamia old age homes as well as those living in private houses, doing their best to make aging easier, better and kinder. They’d love the organisation to touch as many hearts as possible, ensuring that every elderly person was treated with love, compassion and kindness.
Care Buddies has been running successfully for over 12 years on a voluntary basis. The only financial needs they have is to pay for their annual functions, such as the Christmas Care Buddies lunch.
They meet at 9:30 every second Thursday of the month at the N.G. Church in White River.
