We Are…..the hub of cycling in the Slowveld. For years now people and their trusty bikes have been flocking to our region for various road and mountain bike challenges. The list is huge, which is not surprising given the easy access to a range of beautiful and varied riding.
To name but a few; there’s the Induna near Hazyview; several in Sabie, including the infamous “Noon to Moon”. Then there’s the Barberton race that starts the year with a bang; and who can forget many at Mankele.
Forest to Falls; Kruger 2 Canyon; 3 Towers; The Jock; Panorama; The Uplands Classic – so much to choose from…oh and how about Pilgrims Rest where the race ends as you ride through the pub!
Whatever happened to the Prawn Run to Maputo? Write in and tell us what we’ve missed to help us build up our cycling info here on WR Active.

If this isn’t enough to get your wheels or your head spinning the great news is that the old ‘Das Auto’ series of rides is coming back to White River as the Mopani MTB Series. 5 weekends spread between May and October of fun riding in White River!
Most of the events here in the Lowveld include shorter and/or easier options for those who aren’t interested in breaking lungs and other body parts. Many from WR first started cycling through these fun events – the atmosphere is always friendly and it doesn’t really have to be competitive.
Now that I’m in my 50s, what I really love about our cycling options in and around WR is that I don’t have to enter any real races or tackle technical tracks. There are plenty of places to just have a ride for the pure fun of it and to build your fitness. Case in point are the new single tracks that some very hard workers have been quietly putting together over the years. These won’t remain a secret for much longer as the Mopani Series will be showcasing them.
