Eksteen Jacobsz: “You have to earn the trust of your customers, you have to be able to work with all sorts of people in all sorts of stressful environments and still deliver the product. Without fail. Every time. And that is what you pay for as a customer. Ease of mind that your photographer will exceed your expectations and give you value for your hard earned money.”
Wow, that’s a tall order but Eksteen Jacobsz crafted his art for eight years before going pro and has a creative background behind that – he was a full time musician for 10 years, writing, recording and performing his original material on national TV and radio and live across South Africa.
Being a self-taught photographer, he’s had the opportunity to explore photography freely and more intensively from an artistic point of view rather than as a professional photographer. His style is bold, vibrant, dramatic and effective.
What sets his apart from the rest is his drive towards creating art instead of simply replicating the scene in front of his lens. “It’s about making the ordinary look extraordinary,” he says.
His motto is to ‘capture a thousand words in the blink of an eye’ and his professional photography service covers the full spectrum from weddings, portraits, lodges and resorts, landscapes, aviation and music to commercial and fine art.
Ever the perfectionist, since picking up his first 35mm film camera seventeen years ago Eksteen has approached the process of taking photos very seriously. Exposure, composition, light, stitching prints together for panoramas are vital elements to his art. Digital has made a lot of things easier but also more competitive, so service and offering a superb end result is important. “ Professional photography is so much more than just pointing a camera at someone and charging them for the print,” Eksteen comments.
