Piccadilly Pancake Bar and Deli is situated next to the R40 on the way to Bagdad Centre and is a real gem in the town of White River. Not only do they offer a variety of delicious pancakes, they also have a deli filled with organic meats, cheese, preserves, raw milk, honey and a range of other goodies. Clean eating, is eating food that is closest to its natural state with the least amount of processing. Topping the list are organic, fresh and local products.
Cherise Nel and her mother-in-law Margie who also owns LoMarge Boutique in Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre started the deli last year after seeing the need in the White River area. They decided to add the pancake bar as there was a need for this South African favourite in White River. They did some renovations to the building, knocked out a few walls and added some paint and Piccadilly was born.
The décor style is rustic yet elegant and relaxed with natural walls. Photos of Frank Sinatra eating pancakes add an old school charm with a touch of glamour thrown in. The veranda outside is perfect for warmer days as it looks out onto the valley in the distance. There is a big sand pit for the children to play in and horse rides are available on weekends. A bigger play area for the children is on the cards for outside as well as a nursery next door, which will add to the shopping experience.
Piccadilly offers “Farm In a Box” where you can order your organic vegetables online at http://www.farminabox.co.za/. They have vegetables like cucumbers, kale, celery, carrots, leeks, tomatoes, butternut and more and all are delivered to Piccadilly to make it more convenient for you. In addition, they have “ A Farm in your Kitchen” which supplies organic, free range, hormone-free meat. Orders can be phoned in or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org although there is always stock of chicken and pork.
The pancake bar offers a variety of delicious pancakes from milk-tart fillings to beef curry, of which pure, organic grass-fed beef fillet is used from the deli. The coffee on offer is from the Blacksmith Coffee Movement, a movement for social change and a platform for job creation and skills development that uses organic coffee blends from sustainable sources. The coffee is delicious, you can take our word for it!
Piccadilly supports the No Straw Initiative – A single straw in your drink will stay on this planet forever. It takes 200 years to break down and then it breaks down into toxic particles. The US and the UK throw away nearly 550 million straws per day! Very little is recycled and most of it ends up in the ocean. A healthy ocean provides resilience to climate change. So, you can do your bit by refusing to use a straw.
So, if you are looking for something delicious and healthy without a large carbon footprint, Piccadilly is the place for you.
