Mary-Ann Wiggill has solid family roots in the Lowveld and schooled at Uplands College, matriculating in 2008 and appears to have muddled up the left brain / right brain theory. Yes, she has a Business Science (Finance and Accounting) degree and Honours in Tax from UCT as well as an Honours in Accounting from the University of Johannesburg. True, she is completing her Chartered Accountancy qualification with Price Waterhouse Coopers Cape Town. But don’t assume that numerical ability makes her a logic lefty – Mary-Ann is a self-taught artist and is making inroads into the highly competitive Cape art scene, proving that her right brain has plenty of creative muscle as well.
“I really enjoy the balance and creative outlet that art brings to my life and I am lucky enough to be able to balance my life between a corporate job and a creative passion” she remarks.

Her work was featured in the Tollman Bouchard Finlayson Tondo exhibition at the Bouchard Finlayson Gallery in Hermanus, and she’ll be on show at the Sasol New Signatures 2017 exhibition at the Pretoria Art Museum from 31st August to 8th October 2017. Don’t miss this!
So why are we particularly excited about this White River creative talent? Take a look at the images of her extraordinarily innovative artistic concept – live wedding painting and decide for yourself.
Live wedding painting is the creation of an art piece from a scene at your wedding. What a remarkable event for the bride, groom and guests to enjoy on the day – being able to watch the creation of an artwork from start to finish. This is a massive step back in time to the days before location photography, when occasions were captured by artists rather than celluloid.

Not Cape Town based but simply must have this unique wedding memento? Mary-Ann will gladly travel to other provinces to paint weddings, please contact her for a quote to travel to your venue. If she is unable to attend your wedding for any reason, or you prefer not to have the live painting but want a wedding portrait painted, Mary-Ann can paint your special day from a photograph.
White River continues to produce a younger generation of South Africans seizing opportunities and utilizing their talents and abilities. Perhaps it’s something in the country air?
