Tim Ray: “We place a high currency on our professionalism, respect for time and maintaining our vehicles in tip top condition.”
Beginning as a specialist in scuba diving safaris, and based in White River, it was a natural transition to “marry” a wildlife safari and become Dive the Big 5 in 1996. The ‘offspring’ division, Transfers and Tours, grew to adulthood and focuses on providing transfers from Kruger Mpumalanga International airport near White River, Eastgate airport in Hoedspruit and Skukuza airport in the Kruger National Park to the Lowveld lodges and hotels. They also transport clients from Johannesburg and Pretoria to various Lowveld destinations.
Drive The Big 5 focuses on providing a dedicated transfer service from the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA), Eastgate Airport Hoedspruit (HDS), and Skukuza Airport (SKZ), to the various lodges and hotels in the Mpumalanga and Limpopo Lowveld, as well as from OR Tambo International Airport, Lanseria Airports – Johannesburg and from the Pretoria CBD to the various destinations in the Lowveld.
They also run day trips from the various hotels, B&B’s, and lodges in the Nelspruit, White River, and Hazyview areas to the Kruger National Park, either in open safari vehicles or in air-conditioned comfort. They run daily tours, led by registered tour guides to the Panorama Route, Swaziland, Maputo, and to all the other tourist attractions in the area such as to Jane Goodall’s Chimp Eden; Sudwala Caves / Echo Caves; Elephant Whispers / Sanctuary; the Zip Line Canopy Trail; White Water Rafting down the Sabi River; Shangaan Cultural Tours; Moholoholo Animal Rehabilitation Centre; Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (Cheetah and Wild Dog Breeding Centre) and many more places of interest.
Since their inception they have built up a fleet consisting mainly of 10 seater “open” safari vehicles, 13 seater Toyota Quantums, and 7 seater Hyundai H1’s. All top of the range current models and all fully air-conditioned. All our vehicles conform to the road transportation act governing fare-paying passengers in that they each have a COF’s (Certificate of Fitness) and all our driver/guides are in possession of a valid PDP (Public Drivers Permit).
As members of SATSA, Drive The Big 5 conforms to SATSA’s code of conduct and all vehicles are insured so that your clients are covered by a R20 million passenger liability insurance in the unlikely event of an accident
They currently handle all Londolozi, Sabi Sabi’s, MalaMalas’s, and Rhino Post & Plains Camps KMIA – lodge transfers exclusively. They are also one of the preferred transfer companies to Notten’s Bush Camp – so they come highly recommended.
The company has transferred the likes of Gary Player, the Rupert Family, Jack Nicklaus, F W de Klerk, Professor Tim Noakes, the King and Queen of Nepal, and many other high profile celebs, and know how to handle VIPs!
