Tracey Golitz: “First and foremost, we are a family restaurant where parents can dine in comfort while their kids disappear into our safe entertainment area for hours.”
Tracey Golitz is a familiar White River face associated with some of the most popular restaurants in town and she’s known to relish a challenge. Her latest venture may be her biggest one yet – adapting and enhancing Da Loose Mongoose to become the place families choose to relax, enjoying home cooked good food while the kids run off excess energy riding their bikes on the cycling track, climbing into the tree house or popping ‘fakies’ in the skateboard park.
Da Loose is blessed with abundant grounds so Tracey and her team have pulled out all the stops to augment the garden and children’s play facilities to the max. There are toys and activities for all ages and abilities, from littlies happy to potter alone to laid back teens keens to show off their moves.
Her vision is of a delightful country restaurant in a lovely garden setting where honest, simple food is served at tables nestling in dappled shade under the magnificent trees. A place where mums and dads sink into their seats with a relieved sigh as the kids disappear towards the yonder entertainment area. Da Loose is family orientated, with the emphasis on keeping the kids occupied with physical activity rather than electronic. The play area will be extended to include a weather resistant space which can be used at night or on rainy days, so Da Loose becomes much more than a fair weather daylight venue.
There’s more going on here than a facelift and a fresh look, however. Tracey has installed new systems, enabling the waiters, already known for their friendliness, to have the tools they need to provide slick service to match. The service staff have undergone some intensive training as well. Determined to keep the favourites and to stick with menu items that work, Tracey has been careful not to throw out the good in pursuit of the new and is keeping popular favourites on the menu.
Da Loose Mongoose is available for functions and private hire and has a host of facility options to offer. They have free wifi and offer local lodges discounts for their guests. Tweaking presentation on the sit- down meals, Da Loose still offers pizzas and takeaway meals.
Olaf Golitz has joined his energetic wife and will be the necessary extra pair of hands to keep up with all the goings-on. Tracey overflows with ideas, she has the entrepreneur’s eye for potential and spotting opportunity and Da Loose is going to be an extremely long term project for the couple. Good news for families wanting somewhere rustically stylish and comfortable to eat where they can let their kids roam free in.
